The Mission of Lenoir Soil & Water Conservation District is to empower a sustainable future for our community, one acre at a time. We strive to preserve, protect, and promote the wise use of Lenoir County’s natural resources through innovative conservation practices, education, and collaboration to ensure a healthy and thriving environment for generations to come. Lenoir Soil & Water Conservation District partners with local, state, and federal agencies to assist and educate the citizens of Lenoir County.
The Lenoir Soil & Water Conservation District facilitates streamflow rehabilitation & debris removal programs and the county beaver management program, but focuses primarily on implementation of the following NCDA & CS Division of Soil and Water cost share programs:
- Ag Cost Share Program (ACSP) – for water quality related natural resource concerns in agriculture
- Ag Water Resource Assistance Program (AgWRAP) – for water quantity related natural resource concerns in agriculture
- Community Conservation Assistance Program (CCAP) – for non-agricultural natural resource concerns

Lenoir County Soil & Water Conservation District Board
The Lenoir Soil & Water Conservation District is governed by a five-member board of supervisors as follows:
- Charles Hughes- Chairman (elected)
- Macon (Peck) Wooten, Jr – Vice Chairman (appointed)
- Tara Hughes – Treasurer (appointed)
- Taylor Best (elected)
- Stephen Porter (elected)
Lenoir Soil & Water Conservation District Board meetings are open to the public and are normally held at 8:30 AM every 2nd Wednesday from September to June at the USDA Service Center in Kinston, NC.
