SOIL & WATER CONSERVATION DISTRICT

The Mission of Lenoir Soil & Water Conservation District is to empower a sustainable future for our community, one acre at a time. We strive to preserve, protect, and promote the wise use of Lenoir County’s natural resources through innovative conservation practices, education, and collaboration to ensure a healthy and thriving environment for generations to come. Lenoir Soil & Water Conservation District partners with local, state, and federal agencies to assist and educate the citizens of Lenoir County.

 

The Lenoir Soil & Water Conservation District facilitates streamflow rehabilitation & debris removal programs and the county beaver management program, but focuses primarily on implementation of the following NCDA & CS Division of Soil and Water cost share programs:

The Lenoir Soil & Water Conservation District is governed by a five-member board of supervisors as follows:

• Charles Hughes- Chairman (elected)
• Macon (Peck) Wooten, Jr – Vice Chairman (appointed)
• Tara Hughes – Treasurer (appointed)
• Taylor Best (elected)

Lenoir Soil & Water Conservation District Board meetings are  open to the public and are normally held at 8:30 AM every 2nd Wednesday of the month from September to June at the USDA Service Center in Kinston, NC.

Please be advised however that the Wednesday, February 11, 2026, meeting has been rescheduled for Wednesday, February 18, 2026, at 8:30 AM. Please also note that the February meeting will be held in the event center at the Cunningham Research Station on 200 Cunningham Rd, Kinston, NC 28501.
